Polaroid - Vegas Sign

This early season tour includes four major cities (San Francisco, Las Vegas, San Diego, Los Angeles), along with plenty of scenery. Unique to this tour, get active with two days of skiing or snowboarding, and a day spent off-roading dune buggies in the desert (included activities!) Early Season 2013:  13 days / 14 nights

DAY 1-2:

San Francisco.

Rain or shine, this is where it is at. A compact, world-class city with a lot going on. Walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. Follow in the footsteps of Jack Kerouac and the Grateful Dead. Check out a nightlife and club scene that is the best on the West Coast.

DAY 3-5:

Lake Tahoe / Reno.

The second deepest lake in North America, stunning Lake Tahoe is nestled high in the Sierra Nevada mountains. We’re here on a mission to take in its legendary deep snow at one of the 12 ski resorts surrounding the lake. Hit the mountains for two full days of fun… lift passes are included. (Your tour leader is also a professional snowsports instructor and will provide basic tutorial free, if desired—finally learn snowboarding for real!) Come night time, unwind in a bar or casino for drinks and fun. On our last night here, descend to Reno (Nevada’s second city) for a glimpse at how Vegas was 50 years ago!

DAY 6:

Great Basin Deserts.

From Reno, take a trip across the barren Great Basin desert in Nevada, before stopping in a remote town that witnessed the last Gold Rush of the lower 48 States back in the 1920s.

DAY 7:

Death Valley National Park / Las Vegas.

Cross forbidding Death Valley National Park for close up encounters with this unique desert environment, home to the lowest elevation in the western hemisphere. Reach Vegas in time for the weekend and an incredible Friday night out!

DAY 8:

Las Vegas.

Feeling lucky? Try blackjack or learn craps. Enjoy a lie-in, then roam the Strip... There is an entire free day here for sightseeing, shopping, and recovery (or doing it all over again!)

DAY 9:

Route 66.

Escape Vegas and retrace parts of Route 66 the mother road, to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Watch the Grand Canyon IMAX movie tonight (included) and develop an appreciation of its grandeur in all seasons.

DAY 10:

Grand Canyon National Park.

Morning views inside the Grand Canyon National Park and a helicopter flight (optional activity), which is highly recommended! Tonight, stop in one last classic Nevada border town, Laughlin. It’s not Vegas but it is unique—check out the dance floor at the Loser’s Lounge!

DAY 11:

Joshua Tree National Park / Mojave Desert.

A true desert adventure awaits. First off, the bizarre trees and rock formations of Joshua Tree National Park. Actually a type of yucca, Joshua trees can appear other-worldly. From here, meander through stark Mojave landscapes and weird desert towns along the edge of the Salton Sea, a vast and desolate inland body of water.

DAY 12:

Anza-Borrego Desert / San Diego.

Wake up in the Inland Empire of southeastern California, very close to the Imperial Sand Dunes. Here, enjoy a few hours of exhilarating fun and hire quad bikes or sand buggies (optional activity) and drive yourselves on a wild ride off-road! In the afternoon, cross the Anza-Borrego desert and mountains to San Diego, a first class chilled out beach city, and the 7th largest in the USA. We'll go out in the historic Gaslamp district downtown tonight or bar hop in Pacific Beach.

DAY 13:

San Diego.

Even though it is is only March, catch the laid-back beach vibes of southern California with a full day to sightsee in downtown San Diego. Or check out the funky beach communities that dot the coast. Weather this time of year is variable.. it could be a heat wave or cool and cloudy, but don't let that spoil the fun!

DAY 14:

Los Angeles.

On our final day, head up the coast to Los Angeles for Hollywood, Santa Monica and the overblown glitz and sprawl that defines LA. Our last night together on tour!
